CRY OUT!

Saw 'Cry Out' presented by the Theo Adams company last Sunday- It was its London début after showing in Japan and Austria. I was excited to finally see Theo do his thing after having read so much about his work, especially since I managed to scrape myself into the sold out show last minute when a friend offered me a spare ticket. 'Cry Out' was like a cross disciplinary, series of cabaret acts but more fucked up and art school... was interesting to see what someone so young could pull together (Theo is only 20 yrs old and self taught), with a cast who were selected as much for their personalities as their talent. The sound track, with a remix of Casta Diva and Diva by Beyoncé, was particularly delightful as well as the video work by Mathew Stone.

Inspiration/ references for mini art village/ camp ground...

For the Magic Theatre I am wanting the artists to assemble an installation resembling either a series of small houses or tents where the . These can be thought of as large dioramas that the audience can peer into. The artist may occupy his/her tent/house (making it interactive) or may decorate it how they please. The structure of the house can be ordered so that the inside is decorated by the artist  or they can be created from scratch with cardboard etc

THERE WILL BE A WORKSHOP FEBRUARY 13TH FOR THE CONSTRUCTING OF INSTALLATIONS... Some materials and paint will be supplied but also bring your own materials. Let me know if you would prefer a ready made tent to work with or if you would like to make an installation from scratch (i want a good mix of both)

The themes of the night have been derived from the book ‘The Stephenwolf’ and the end scene where the lead character explores 'The Magic Theatre'/ different realms within his mind by entering various doors. Here are the signs on the doors which you can use as a starting point for your installation... You can also make up your own name along these lines to describe your installation...

I have booked the artist Akimbo Moon-child who has already created a house which is a great example of the kind of things you could do....
Akimbo inhabits the house and guests collect golden tickets or playing cards and deliver these through the post box and then move round to the side of the house where they meet Akimbo and choose to either receive an EAT ME cake or a DRINK ME cocktail poured from an ornate tea pot- see images below

Some other ideas--- fill with objects and treasures already in your possession, decorate with collage or material, use lighting, have a tv inside playing video art, fill with leaves and flowers (like a garden or forest inside a house) dress up and do something bizzaarre inside...

OR POSSIBLE TENTS---

Inspiration Part 3

My Saturday night consisted of setting up my loft bed with a few friends- The bed is very high so with the mattress in place your nose almost touches the ceiling. No waking up with a start in the morning I may knock myself into a coma... Should end up looking something like the image below...
